Florentine cup
I spent a very happy few weeks in and around Florence in 1983. I was touring various villas and gardens at the invitation of Migneco & Smith, They had commissioned me to make paintings of the gardens as possible posters. I was lucky enough to visit Sir Harold Acton who showed me round his garden at La Pietra and allowed me to draw there. I wanted to bring something back from Florence and spotted this large pink cup and saucer in an antique shop and duly bought it. I had long been meaning to paint it and the first lockdown gave me the ideal chance. The painting is in my book The Light in Suburbia
